Question 1

What clarity grade should I choose for a lab-grown Asscher?

Accepted Answer

The Asscher has a large open table with step-cut facets that make inclusions more visible — we recommend VS2 or higher clarity for Asscher cuts regardless of origin. The advantage with lab-grown is that VS1, VVS2, and even VVS1 clarity grades become financially accessible. A lab-grown Asscher in VVS2 clarity might cost less than a natural Asscher in SI1, giving you a dramatically cleaner stone for less money. Every Asscher at Icestore includes 360-degree video so you can evaluate clarity and the signature concentric pattern.

Question 2

How does a lab-grown Asscher differ from a lab-grown Emerald cut?

Accepted Answer

Both are step cuts with cropped corners, but the Asscher is square (1:1 ratio) with a higher crown, smaller table, and deeper pavilion than the rectangular Emerald. This gives the Asscher its distinctive concentric square pattern (the windmill effect) and greater depth when viewed face-up. The Emerald produces broad horizontal flashes, while the Asscher creates a mesmerizing vortex that draws the eye inward. These differences are about cut geometry, not origin — they apply equally to lab-grown and natural stones.
